Originally know as Sugar House Transfer. Sugar House Moving & Storage has been an industry leader along the Wasatch Front for over 100 years. From our founding roots in Salt Lake City’s historic Sugar House area and operating with horse drawn wagons to today's multiple locations and 53-foot air ride trailers, we've developed and improved many of today's industry practices.
Drawing on the traditions of the company’s original owners James and Norma Greensides and through the third generation of family ownership, Sugar House Moving & Storage has over 100 hundred years of experience in providing the highest quality in the moving and storage industry.
In 1932, James Greensides built a large truck using the back end of an old Ford
Model-T truck and the front end of a Dodge truck. The hybrid vehicle could carry as much as two tons.
In 1939, he applied for a franchise to move household goods via Utah highways. Up to that time, he had only made deliveries in Salt Lake City and the surrounding area. When building supplies became plentiful again, following World War II, James Greensides constructed a warehouse and office for his one-truck operation.
In 1946, Sugar House Moving & Storage became and agent for North American Van Lines. This alliance afforded the opportunity to move things across state lines and to other nations, with intrastate hauling privileges retained through Sugar House's original authority. James Greensides terminated his connection with North American Van Lines in 1975, and Sugar House Moving & Storage became an agent for Bekins Van Lines.
From our first hybrid vehicle to our national GPS tracking system, Sugar House Moving & Storage has been serving the Salt Lake City area since 1907. Moving, storage, and freight have been the cornerstones of the industry, but in early 2000 a new Self Storage concept emerged on the scene here in Salt Lake City. Since then it has grown to a national business serving major cities throughout the United States. Sugar House Moving & Storage started providing a portable self storage option in 2003. In early 2006, Sugar House Moving & Storage started expanding in to new markets and with doing so started providing their portable self storage option under the name PortaBox Storage.
